Clean Fridge Friday

Yay, it's almost the weekend. We have a busy one planned. We have a birthday on Sunday. Sweet boy 2 will be a teenager. Yes the big 13.

We have a family barbeque planned for tomorrow and then he has a friends sleepover organised for Sunday.

So today I needed to clean out the fridge ready for all the barbeque food. I do tend to clean out the fridge on Friday anyway as this is bin day.

Before photo - A good scrub required me thinks!

Now doesn't that look better.

Ok ready to shop for the barbeque food and a doggy birthday cake. As that is what sweet boy loves more than anything. Have a lovely Friday evening!

Decluttering the house - a day at a time

What makes you feel happy? I think deep down inside I am a bit of a minimalist. I get stressed and panicky when there are lots of things lying around where they don't belong! I would love to walk into a lounge that just has sofas, a telly and some photos on the walls or a dining room that just has a table and chairs with some flowers on the table.

Does my house look like that? Oh noooo! Why I hear you ask... because I have a family that are certainly not minimalist in fact I have even been known to accuse my poor sweet man of being a hoarder!

If I am honest he is far from a hoarder he just has a little too much stuff for my minimalist taste.

Because of this I have once sometimes twice yearly clear outs, during this time I sell as much as I can get away with and if its not sale worthy it goes to the local charity shop.  This not only makes me feel as if I can breathe easier but normally gives us some extra cash towards a family holiday together (one of the most important things for me).

Over the next few weeks I will update you on our current clear out, what we have achieved financially by doing this and show you the progress we have made to decluttering our home.

That pre-teen girly thing!

Good afternoon.

My beautiful darling daughter is nine going on eighteen. She loves clothes, make-up (argh I found lipstick kiss marks on her curtains yesterday!) shoes, jewellery. Yep, you get the gist.

So for her birthday a couple of weeks ago I ask her what she would like, her answer, dresses mum, one for every day of the week.

Now I am not affiliated with any shops but I have bought her dresses from every shop that I can think of but the one place that I seem to get quality from is  Next.  I bought her three dresses from Next, one that she really liked from a local supermarket and my much trendier sister in law bought her one from Yumi.

The three Next ones are holding up brilliantly, washing well etc, the Yuma one again washes well and seems to be great however the supermarket dress has three holes along the back of it. Whilst I can probably sew it so it looks fairly reasonable I am still a little disappointed.

I guess you pay for what you get!

Tell me what you think? Have you found a shop that you think has a reasonable price and quality?

Life as a working mum

Good evening. Finally the summer holidays have arrived. We broke up from school last Wednesday and have now been off for officially three days.
As a working mum I have spent the last three days trying to get my home back into some sort of order. Are you a working mum? Does your house fall apart while you are at work?
I am very lucky because I work in a school so I do get to spend all of the holidays with my delightful children however I do feel guilty that I am not one of these mums that is always taking my children somewhere different every day.
It's not that I don't want to but firstly I couldn't afford to and secondly the holidays are when things start to run smoothly again.
So today we did washing, we tidied bedrooms, we sorted out clothes that were too small, we all had bubble baths with excessive amounts of bubbles, we baked a chocolate cake together and we read stories to each other whilst it poured with rain outside and I just hope my little people don't feel as though they have missed out. I as a mum don't feel as though I have missed out as I have enjoyed looking at their smiling faces as they pretend to be Father Christmas with bubbles all over their faces, have seen them scrabbling to see who can get to the left over cake mixture first and have had the biggest cuddles ever during story time.
I just love the holidays with my little people!
